Factory Town 2.3b — Mac version
Factory Town is a city-builder where the real game is untangling the mess of belts, carts, and chutes you've built to keep your villagers fed and happy.
- Chop and gather. You start by assigning workers to chop trees and mine stone. Raw wood and stone are the foundation of everything, so getting a steady flow into storage is job one.
- Feed the fires. Drop a kitchen or workshop. Now your raw logs need to become planks. You'll place a lumber mill right next to the tree line, stick a chute on it, and run that chute straight to your workshop's input. No more workers hauling single planks by hand.
- Put a roof over their heads. Your workers need houses, and houses need cloth. You'll set up a farm for cotton, a loom to weave it, and a tailor to stitch the clothes — each step linked by belts and sorting filters so the right thing ends up in the right building.
- Build the high street. Homes upgrade when they have access to goods like potions, books, or mana pipes. Now you're juggling multiple production chains at once, building roads for ox-drawn carts and programming logic gates to stop one slow machine jamming the whole town.
- Tinker forever. The minute-to-minute work is watching your flow, spotting the bottleneck — always a backed-up belt or a starved workshop — and redesigning the route. You'll delete a stretch of conveyor, flip a sorter, and watch the backup clear with deep satisfaction.
It's a gentle puzzle that constantly nudges you to make things a little bit neater, a little bit faster, and a lot less tangled than they were five minutes ago.
Little things you'll miss at first
- Shift-click to copy settings — hold Shift while clicking a building to copy its recipe and filters to another building of the same type. Saves endless menu-diving when you're placing your twentieth furnace.
- Right-click a chute to see flow direction — the arrows are easy to ignore when you're zoomed out, but a quick right-click shows exactly which way goods are moving without ripping anything up.
- Pause individual buildings — click the little clock icon on any workshop's panel to stop it drawing resources. Handy when you're re-routing belts and don't want a machine eating all your planks mid-rebuild.
A factory town mac full version kind of evening
I watched a friend who runs a real-world repair café play this. Within an hour she'd built a cloth district that fed three tailors from one cotton field, using nothing but gravity chutes and a single sorter. When a cart jammed at a railway crossing, she didn't delete it — she built a bypass loop with a timed gate. "Same as fixing the workshop coffee machine," she said. "Find the bottleneck, give it space, don't overcomplicate it." That's the game in a sentence.
- Boats can now plot a course straight across open ocean instead of hugging the shore.
- Airship pathfinding got smarter, so they spend less time looking lost.
- Performance work means fewer pointless calculations and a snappier World Data panel on huge towns.
- Squashed several bugs: audio sliders defaulting to zero, ambient drone carrying on at the main menu, double refunds when scrapping a train, and copied barns letting you upgrade past their real capacity.
- macOS: check the developer's store page for the latest minimum version
- Architecture: Intel Macs only
- Languages: Russian, English, German, Spanish, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, Portuguese, French
