Granny Remake 3.6.4 — Mac version
You’ll need an Apple Silicon Mac to run this one. The developer has tested it on macOS Tahoe and an M4 Mac mini, so anything in the M-series family should handle it fine. Older Intel machines are out of luck.
This is a proper cat-and-mouse horror game. You’re trapped in Granny’s house, trying to piece together an escape route — possibly by fixing up an old car — while she stalks you through dark basements and dusty attics. What makes it tense is the sound system. Granny doesn’t just follow a set patrol path. She hears doors creak, objects drop, and floorboards groan under your feet. Make too much noise and she locks onto your location fast.
You’ll spend most of your time sneaking, solving puzzles, and weighing up whether that drawer is worth opening if it might bring her running. The atmosphere does a lot of the heavy lifting, with a dynamic soundtrack that swells when things get hairy. It’s a proper stealth challenge wrapped in a horror skin.
Who’s it for? Patient players who enjoy tension over jump scares. If you like memorising patrol routes and planning three moves ahead while crouched under a table, you’ll settle in nicely. If you want a run-and-gun thrill ride or get frustrated by slow, methodical hide-and-seek, this might just wind you up.
Caught in the basement (a real moment)
A friend of mine who runs a pottery studio got hooked on this. She's not a gamer — just someone who likes puzzles and quiet evenings. One night she crept into the basement, spotted a key on a shelf, and nudged a tin can with her elbow. Granny heard it. My friend froze behind a stack of crates, heart thumping, while Granny shuffled past inches away. She escaped through the garage route twenty minutes later and said her hands were still shaking. That's the game in a nutshell: small mistake, big panic, and a story you'll tell someone afterwards.
If things go wrong
Two snags crop up regularly. The first is the app refusing to open after you've dragged it to Applications — you get a damaged-app warning or it just bounces once and quits. Mount the disk image again and run the Fix file sitting in there. That sorts most launch problems straight off.
The second is a black screen on first boot. Let it sit for thirty seconds — the Wineskin wrapper sometimes needs a moment to warm up. If it stays black, toggle fullscreen off and on with Cmd+F. That usually jolts it back to life. A few people grabbing Granny Remake torrent Mac builds have hit this after unpacking — just needs that little nudge and it runs fine.

Questions from the bench
Does Granny know where I am all the time?
No, but she reacts to sound. If you knock something over or run across a creaky floor, she’ll investigate and can work out your location.
How do I escape the house?
You solve puzzles and complete challenges throughout the house, eventually giving you a chance to escape by car.
