Pick the right plugin format for your DAW

Optimus loads as AU, VST2, VST3 or AAX — pick whichever your DAW expects. All formats are 64-bit, so an older 32-bit host won't see it. Logic calls for AU, Ableton Live suits VST2 or VST3, Pro Tools needs AAX.

2. Feed it a stereo mix

Drop the plug-in on your master bus. The first intelligent module maps out the frequency balance of the whole track. You steer the direction; the analysis works faster and more accurately than earlier versions, giving you a snapshot to tweak from.

3. Dial in the dynamic module

The second module runs in real time and keeps an ear on loudness and clarity. It pushes intelligibility up without flattening the life out of the mix. Think of it as a smart lift — you set the weight, it handles the heavy maths.

4. Print or adjust

Bounce your master when it sounds right. If the track needs a nudge next week, open the session again — the module picks up where you left off because it monitors continuously, not in a single pass.

Underneath the two modules sits a single goal: keep the creative calls with you while the machine does the repetitive listening. It does not replace your ears; it shortens the gap between a rough mix and a finished file.

Waking up a tired mix on the master bus

You've got a mix that's nearly there. Kick and snare sit right, vocal cuts through, but the whole thing feels a little tired compared to reference tracks. You drop Optimus onto the master bus and hit play. The balance module takes a few seconds to read the track — its analysis is quicker than the last version — and you nudge the curve towards a shape that feels closer to what you heard in the car yesterday.

With the balance sorted, you flick to the dynamic module. As the chorus hits, the meters twitch and the sound thickens without turning to sludge. You A/B it against the bypassed signal a few times. Louder, clearer, same vibe. That's the bit that used to take half an afternoon with separate limiters and EQs.

You bounce a quick test, email it to the client, and close the laptop. Job done in under twenty minutes.

Will it run on an older Intel Mac

Does it work on an older Intel Mac? Yes. Optimus needs macOS 10.13 or later and runs on any 64-bit Intel or Apple Silicon machine with at least 8 GB of RAM. A 2013 MacBook Pro with an i7 handles it fine, though rendering times will be slower than on newer hardware.

Will it open in my DAW? If your host loads AU, VST2, VST3 or AAX 64-bit plug-ins, you're covered. Reaper, Logic, Ableton Live, Cubase and Pro Tools all play nicely. Folks who grabbed an SSG Audio Optimus torrent Mac build often check this first — just confirm the component files landed in the right plug-in folders and your DAW rescanned them.

Can I skip the balance module and just use the dynamics half? You can. Each module works independently. Some engineers lean on the dynamic module alone for quick loudness lifts and handle EQ elsewhere in the chain.
