Rescuing a scratched classroom documentary for USB

Picture a teacher who uses a ten-year-old documentary series in class. The original discs are getting scratched, and the school laptop doesn’t have an optical drive. Reviving discs with unreadable IFO files

Some older discs with unreadable IFO files look dead on arrival. DVDFab can often reconstruct enough to pull the main title anyway. If the app sits there reading a scratched disc for ages, try a gentle clean with a microfibre cloth and a dab of water — no circular wiping. A dual-layer burn that fails halfway usually means the blank disc isn’t playing nice. Slow the write speed down to 4x and let it take its time.

On Apple Silicon Macs, the first launch can feel sluggish while macOS verifies the package. That’s normal and only happens once. PAL, NTSC, and straight-to-iPod conversions

Will it handle my foreign-language discs? Yes. PAL and NTSC are both fine, and the interface speaks your language too — there’s a long list, from Arabic to Japanese.

Can I convert straight to something my old iPod can play? The converter has profiles for iPods, PSPs, Zunes and even some ancient PDAs. They’re basic presets, but they work.

What if I only want the main film, no menus? Pick Main Movie mode. It ignores extras and gives you just the feature, which also shrinks the file size.

I grabbed a DVDFab Mac crack and now the ripping stutters. Any ideas? Stuttering rips are often down to a dirty lens or a disc with deep scratches. Try a different USB drive if you’re using an external one — some cheap enclosures drop data under load.
