How does it build on the built-in macOS picker?

Apple's own loupe grabs one colour at a time and forgets it straight away. Sip collects them, keeps them, and lets you edit them later. Think of it as a palette rack next to a single paint tin.

Can I make it talk to the apps I already use?

Yes. You can link colours across your workflow so a change in Sip updates a linked swatch in Sketch or Photoshop. Adding a selected colour to another app is often a single Cmd tap away.

What makes the selection tools proper kit?

Holding Shift or Ctrl lets you pick up multiple colours in one go instead of grabbing them one by one. It saves the back-and-forth when you are pulling a whole scheme from a mock-up.

How do custom colour formats help?

If your dev team hands you a list in an odd format, you can add it as a custom format inside Sip. You copy and paste in the same notation your project actually uses, with no extra conversion step.

A front-end dev's five-minute grab

Imagine a developer who just got a design mock-up and needs to pull hex codes for a button, a hover state, and a text label. They open the mock-up, hold Shift, and click three colours in one pass. The hex values land in Sip's tray, ready to copy straight into CSS. No typing, no squinting at a loupe, no switching windows three times. That is the kind of morning that starts calmly.

Little tricks worth knowing

Dock the colour panel to a screen edge and it stays visible without stealing focus from your main window. It is a small thing, but it means you can drag a colour onto a palette while still looking at your design file.

The contrast checker does more than flag a fail. It can suggest a corrected pair automatically. If you are nudging a button label towards AA compliance, that one click saves you from a manual hex hunt.

Snapshots are easy to overlook. You can freeze a set of colours as a snapshot before tweaking, so if the client prefers last week's palette after all, you are not rebuilding it from memory. Snapshots sit quietly in the sidebar until you need them.

Sharing palettes by email is built in, but the format stays compact. A colleague can drop the file straight into their own Sip and see the same swatches with the same names. It feels less like exporting data and more like passing a paint tin across the desk.

If you use a sip mac full version setup, the custom format support also means you can paste colours in whatever notation your codebase demands, whether that is Swift's UIColor syntax, Android's hex-plus-alpha, or something your tech lead invented three years ago. You set it once and forget it.

Questions from the bench

Can I dock the colour panel out of the way?

Yes. You can dock a slim colour panel to a screen edge so it stays visible without eating up your workspace.
