Someone who wants the bones of Streets of Rage with the tension of a rogue-like will get on with KIBORG. It is a scrapper for people who enjoy learning enemy patterns, building a character over short runs, and watching limbs fly off in a distant prison arena.

Switching fists, blades, and guns mid-fight

  • Fans of hybrid combat — you switch between fists, blades, and guns mid-fight, and the rhythm changes with your loadout.
  • Players who enjoy restarting — dying sends you back to rethink your cybernetic upgrades, and each run pushes you to try a different build.
  • People hungry for variety — dozens of enemy types keep things unpredictable, each one bringing its own tactics and attack tells.
  • A gritty, practical setup — the prison-as-reality-show framing gives every fight a scrappy, desperate energy.

Blood effects and decapitations are part of the feedback loop

  • This is a violent game — strong blood effects and occasional decapitation are part of the feedback loop, not an afterthought.
  • No Intel support — the build was tested on Apple Silicon only, so older Macs are out of luck.
  • The story is told in Russian and English voices only — the interface covers many languages, but the spoken dialogue sticks to two.

“Damaged app” warning after a macOS update

Most problems come down to two things: the disk image not ejecting, or the game refusing to start after a macOS update. If you see a “damaged app” warning, it usually means Gatekeeper got involved. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security, then click Open Anyway next to KIBORG. You shouldn’t have to do this twice.

If the game opens to a black screen, try launching it once from the Applications folder instead of Spotlight. Some Apple Silicon Macs are picky about how the first launch happens. After that first clean start, it tends to behave.

Another one: if sound cuts out after connecting Bluetooth headphones mid-fight, restart the game. The audio engine doesn’t always pick up new output devices on the fly. Annoying, but quick to fix.

Block-button dodge and per-run auto-save quirks

  • The game auto-saves your implant choices between fights, but not between runs. Don’t quit mid-run expecting to pick up where you left off — rogue-lite rules apply.
  • Holding the block button and tapping a direction does a quick sidestep. The tutorial mentions it once, but it’s easy to forget, and it’s the difference between life and death against the whip-wielding guards.
  • You can remap controls from the pause menu, but the defaults are already sensible if you’ve ever played a beat ‘em up on a pad.

One small thing I like: the game remembers your language choice separately from macOS. If your Mac runs in English but you want the interface in Polish or Japanese, you can set that in the options without touching System Settings.

Swiping desktops mid-run pauses without stutter

KIBORG behaves well with Mission Control and full-screen spaces. Swipe to another desktop mid-run and the game pauses cleanly — no stutter when you come back. If you’re recording with QuickTime Player, the Apple Silicon build holds up fine, though you’ll want to drop the resolution a notch if you’re also running a screen recorder and a browser full of tabs.

Controller-wise, both PS5 and Xbox pads work over Bluetooth without extra drivers. If the pad drops connection during a run, unplug it and plug it back in via USB — Bluetooth re-pairing mid-game can be flaky. For anyone playing on a Mac mini with a mechanical keyboard, the game also supports plug-and-play arcade sticks, which is a nice touch for a brawler.

If you’re still on an older Intel Mac, this one won’t run — the ARM-only build means Apple Silicon is the floor. For everyone else, the kiborg mac full version is a straightforward download, and once it’s in your Applications folder it just works.

Questions from the bench

Does KIBORG run on Intel Macs?

No. The build was tested on a Mac mini 2024 M4 running macOS Tahoe, and it requires Apple Silicon.

What kind of combat does the game have?

It mixes beat 'em up melee, ranged shooting, and rogue-like upgrades. You cycle through weapons mid-run and face dozens of enemy types.

Which languages are spoken in KIBORG?

Voice acting is in Russian and English. The interface itself is localised into thirteen languages, including German, Japanese, and Portuguese.
